Professional Learning Communities
Richland High School will be implementing a pilot program that will insert weekly collaborative time into its schedule. Currently, RHS teachers do not have a regular opportunity to meet and create lessons and assessments that can lead to an improvement in student learning. This collaborative time will be called professional learning communities (PLC). PLCs are not a new fad; they are a well-researched approach to staff development that has been proven to improve student learning. The collaborative time will be on Wednesday mornings and will utilize the same bell schedule as is currently used for our Culminating Project. PLC collaboration time will be from 7:30 – 8:15 and 1st period will start at 8:25. Success of the RHS PLC pilot will be measured by the academic interventions put into place, a decrease in the number of failing grades, and an increase in the number of AP tests taken.
