In order to meet our yearbook publisher deadlines and to include your son/daughter’s senior photo in the yearbook we need your help. It’s very important that we have senior photos turned in on time with the proper guidelines met.

GUIDELINES:

  • Pictures are due FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2010.

  • Head and Shoulders, Vertical shot (up and down)

  • No props (including hats)

  • Nothing that violates the school dress code or rules can be worn or displayed

Every year there are questions about the senior photo requirements. What is a prop? What isn’t a prop? I would hope common sense prevails. The focus is supposed to be on the student’s face, thus the request for a head and shoulders shot. The final decision of whether or not a photo meets the standards will be made by the yearbook adviser and the principal.

The senior recognition ads in the back of the book are the place for all of the other poses, prop photos, and baby pictures. More information about purchasing senior recognition ads is available below.

HOW TO TURN IN SENIOR PHOTOS:

  • Wallet size prints can be turned in to Room 1240 (the journalism room) or to the main office and the secretaries will get them to us.

  • Prints should be on photo paper, not regular printer paper.

  • Do not write on the back of the photo; use a post-it note for the name. Inks and markers smear or bleed through.

  • If your photographer is sending your photo in instead of you bringing it, please check with Mr. Turner after the deadline. Photographers are notorious for getting us their CD’s on the deadline date.

  • If you are bringing in a CD of your digital photo, it must be a high resolution JPEG or TIFF file, at least 300 DPI. Every year we receive poor quality images taken with a camera set for low resolution or pulled off of someone’s MySpace or Facebook page. These don’t work. If you are unsure what these terms mean, it might be best to just submit a print.

  • Be careful emailing images. Typically e-mailed photos are low resolution in order to keep the file size manageable. If you must email your photo, please ensure that it is a high-resolution image. The e-mail address is: tim.turner@rsd.edu

PHOTOS RECEIVED AFTER THE NOV. 5 DEADLINE MAY BE PLACED AT THE END OF THE SENIOR SECTION, OUT OF ALPHABETICAL ORDER.

Please follow the guidelines to ensure that your photo will be in the book. We want to include as many seniors in the book as possible, but it is the student’s responsibility to meet these guidelines. After the Nov. 5 deadline, students who have not submitted a photo will receive one reminder notice in his or her homeroom. Students who do not attend classes on campus (i.e. CBC or Tri-Tech) will have to check with Mr. Turner in person.

If we still don’t have a photo after the reminders are sent, we will try to use the student’s ASB photo, if the student had one taken (many seniors don’t). If that is not available, the student will be listed in the “photo not received” list.

Also, when the yearbook proof pages are completed, the senior pictures will be displayed in the language arts display case (upstairs in the Main Hall) for students to verify photos and spellings.

SENIOR RECOGNITION ADS

Seniors ads are created and sold online. After Sept. 1, go to www.jostensadservice.com and search for Richland High School. There you will be able to choose your ad size and design, upload photos, create your ad, write your message, and pay for the ad. You can also save your work and return to it later. The deadline for senior ads is set by Jostens and is typically in January; it will be listed on the website. After the senior ad deadline, the website closes, so no senior ads can be accepted and incomplete ads cannot be finished.

If you have any questions please contact Tim Turner at 967-6550 or by email anytime at tim.turner@rsd.edu.
